Do you remember last year I’ve mentioned that I’ve had a blog stalker? See THIS post!

Mike & Janyne met in January 2006 while he was working at a Nissan dealership in Staten Island. Janyne was was shopping for a new car with her parents when Mike approached them to offer assistance. Immediately, Mike knew he had to have her! She was scheduled to pick up the car in a few days and since Mike already had her number (which was to be used for business purposes) he called Janyne on the premise of confirming the details to pick up the vehicle. After a few minutes of casual chit-chat, he asked Janyne out for coffee to “thank her for buying the car”. Startled that the car salesman had just asked her out, she didn’t know what to say. She thought for a moment of the obvious age difference (Mike has 17 years on her) then agreed, thinking “what harm could coffee do?” and “it’s not like he’s asking me to marry him!”.

The next day, when she was about to leave her new car, Mike asked Janyne when they could go out for coffee. They decided on the following night after work and as he gave her his phone number, he said “You’re gorgeous! You have the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen!”.

On the night they went out for coffee, Janyne was surprised at how much they had in common, despite their age difference. They talked for so long, they didn’t realize the coffee shop was about to close. That weekend, Mike took Janyne to a romantic restaurant in Brooklyn for their ‘first date”. Afraid of starting a relationship with someone nearly twice her age, who was previously married with children close to her age, Janyne was uncertain if they wanted the same things. She set a “cut-off” of 6 months – if by then, they’re not on the same page she would walk away. She never got the chance as Mike revealed that if he were to ever marry again, it had to be her!
On December 15, 2007 at that same Brooklyn restaurant, Mike popped the big question, to Janyne “you’re gonna marry me, right?”

Since then I’ve been in contact with Janyne and we’ve built a very great relationship, I consider Mike and Janyne almost family.

Her wedding finally rolled around so after being a blogstalker for so long now it’s her time to shine.

Janyne and her family visits Aruba regularly and introduced Mike to Aruba, so when Mike proposed to Janyne it was easy to choose a spot for their Destination Wedding. Janyne didn’t just want to have her wedding on the beach so she opted for Tierra del Sol and had Ventanas del Mar cater for them. The evening started off with the cermony being officiated by Father Jacob as they wanted a more religious touch to their wedding, they’ve had a coctail hour that was entertained by Nico Conner with his Magical Steelpan. After the coctail hour there was a sitdown dinner. After dinner DJ Tino from Cyclone Promotions had the entire party family on the dance floor all night. The young and the younger were bouncing to the tunes kicking out of his speakers.

Janyne and Mike I wish you two the happiest life together.

Ikna and Eric really wanted every aspect of their wedding on the island to be documented, so documented we did. A few days before the wedding they wanted to go out and shoot some pictures. We’ve had a town and country as the wedding was going to be on the beach. This is always nice as it assist the couple in loosening up infront of the camera come wedding day.

Here are a few of the many shots that I’ve made on this day.

What’s Up With Santa?

Dec 27

All through my infancy Santa  used to faithfully visit. On Christmas morning there was always a gift under the Christmas Tree for me. Since I grew up and Santa got older I think that he bequeathed a dose of senile dementia. No matter how many notes I leave him, it just doesn’t happen. I really hope next year he would remember to stop by.

Nevertheless,  from experience I learned that I had to prepare myself in case he didn’t show up. I still have a wishlist of equipment that I need for business. Eventhough business had not been great this year I just had to put some aside to get a few things on the wish list.

I’ve got this lens and placed it under the tree for myself. (It’s a real blessing having your hobby as your job.) So my bag now has an addition to it, a wide angle zoom. I can’t wait to try it out. After the season I’ve also sent my lenses and cameras to service so everything in my bag are back to factory specification, ready for next season.

El Cheapo Photography

With the downfall in the economy it is comprehensible that one would seek to cut costs, wedding planning included. However cutting cost of photography should be your last resort. It would not bore me to be repetitive and reiterate as many times required until the message is understood: Your photography is an investment once acquired; it becomes priceless.

In reference to photography, not only wedding photography, I present to you a website dedicated to the value of photography.

Since the last weeks’s sunset was so much loved and it makes many think of the island. I’ll post another sunset shot.

This was taken from my back yard.

I must also add that this entire week we’ve been having superb sunsets. I’ll try and go out and play later today. I have an idea going around my head for some time already.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Guest And Their Cameras

Jun 30

I’ve found this on Rob Rife’s blog, Rob’s a great photographer living in Cleveland, Ohio and a member of WPJA. I’ve received permission to copy this thought and give him credits.

I’ve heard much discussion recently about photographers who limit or restrict guests from taking pictures. Different photographers have different policies regarding this…with some being more restrictive than others. Here is a factual look at why most photographers have such policies in place.

It used to be that photographers derived a large part of their income from the sale of prints, and every time someone else took a picture, it meant that some of their income was going to be lost. This was particularly true with the formals and family photographs. So, to protect their ability to feed their families, many photographers prohibited outside cameras during the family photographs.

But it goes much deeper than the photographer missing out on a few sales………..

It’s more about the photographers ability to provide the best images that they can for their client. Most photographers care very deeply about the images they produce, and when a great image is compromised by a guest with a camera…or missed altogether…it’s frustrating to the photographer. And it’s been know to cause brides to be very angry with their photographer over missed pictures, when in fact, it was completely out of the photographers control.

Here’s a few real world examples of what can go wrong…

During the bridal and family photographs…some of the subjects may look at someone with a camera other than the photographers…so you end up with family and bridal portraits that have some of the people looking in different directions. That doesn’t make for a very appealing image. And while these can usually be retouched to some degree, it may cost you significant money.

Your photographer got no emotionally charged images of the father/daughter dance…because the entire time there were friends and relatives calling your names and tapping you on the shoulder to turn and look at them so they could take your picture.

That wonderful moment when you when you were dancing with your brother would have made a great photograph had it not been for that big orange glow on his face coming from the focus assist light on someones camera.

I know a photographer who once was unable to get any images at all of the ring exchange. The priest had restricted him to the very back of the church, and although he could see down the aisle just fine with a telephoto lens, his view was completely blocked by the three guests with cellphone cameras who got up and stood in the aisle near the front.

I could go on…but I think you see my point. Wedding photographers in general understand that guests want to take pictures. They expect it. They know that many guests bring cameras, even if it’s a cellphone camera. They certainly don’t want to deny anyone the chance to take a picture. Most photographers will tell you that they want the guests to take as many pictures as they like.

But they also hope that they’re given the opportunity to produce their best work for their clients. They don’t expect a client to tell their guests to leave their digital and cellphone cameras at home, but they do hope that you understand that sometimes an otherwise well intentioned guest will compromise their best efforts.

All they want is the chance to give their clients the best possible work that they can. They want their clients to be thrilled with the images…not unhappy because something got missed or ruined.

Bryan Morris
